6 Homemade Skin Care Recipes Using Natural Ingredients

Making our own homemade skin care recipes is very easy and fun, especially when we're using simple, everyday ingredients from our kitchens. Not only does this save us an extra trip to the grocery store, our skin always looks nourished and healthy , thanks to all the natural ingredients we've been using!

Exfoliation or scrubbing is a very important skincare regime as it not only helps to cleanse the skin, it also removes dead skin cells and aids in the growth of new cells.


For this Oats and Orange-Peel Scrub, you'll need:

Mix the two, add 1-2 tbsp milk, honey or rose water(for a vegan variant) and apply onto your face. Wash off, scrubbing gently after ten minutes.

This serves the purpose of a mask and a scrub because of its texture and skin-loving properties.





2. Homemade Ubtan Mask:

Want to get glowing skin instantly? Try out this DIY skin care recipe for an Ubtan mask that genlty exfoliates, cleanses and makes skin glow naturally!


For this instant glow Ubtan Mask, you'll need:

  • Turmeric/ Haldi - 1/2 tsp

  • Sandalwood Powder - 1.5 tsp

  • Besan/ Gram Flour - 1 tbsp

Mix all the three ingredients with some milk or coconut milk(for a vegan variant) and apply onto skin. Wash off after it dries, massaging into the skin in a circular fashion. Moisturise as needed and witness the glow!






3. Papaya and Honey Face Mask:

This has to be one of the easiest homemade skin care recipe, using only 3 fresh ingredients, to nurture and care for our skin.


For this blemish-revomal Papaya and Honey Mask, you'll need:

  • 1 inch piece papaya (squashed/made into pulp)

  • Honey - 1 tsp

  • Lemon juice - 1/2 tsp

Mix all 3 ingredients and apply this paste onto the skin. Leave on to dry and wash off, massaging gently in a circular motion. This mask not only leaves the skin feeling fresh and soft, it also helps in removing spots and blemishes.





4. Tomato and Curd De-tan Mask:

Tanning is a part and parcel of hot summer days and summer vacations. Here is a simple homemade skin care recipe that is not only quick to make, but also quick at working on your tan!


For this tan-removal mask, you'll need:

  • Tomato pulp - 1 tbsp

  • Curd - 1 tbsp Mix the two together to form a paste and apply onto the tanned areas. Allow it to dry and wash off. Repeat as many times as required. The acidic properties in the tomato and curd works gently on the skin, removing tan and soothing the skin.

5. Coffee - Sugar Body Scrub:

An all time favourite of many, this homemade skin care recipe is super easy to make and great for exfoliating the skin in a natural and effective way.


For this coffee-sugar body scrub, you'll need:

  • Ground coffee grains - 2 tbsp

  • powdered brown sugar - 1 tbsp

  • Olive oil - 1-2 tbsp Mix all three ingredients together until they come together like a paste. Gently massage onto face and body, moving in a circular fashion. Wash off with warm water. Follow up with a mask or some moisturiser as needed.




6. Refreshing Facial Mist or Toner:

Here is another simple DIY skin care recipe that is great for the hot summers - a facial mist made with natural ingredients. This recipe requires only 2 ingredients and is 100% natural (kid-friendly too!)

For this Refreshing, easy to make Facial Mist/Toner, you'll need:

  • Apple Cider Vinegar - 1/2 cup (make your own or buy a natural one here)

  • Essential oil of your choice

Mix the Apple Cider Vinegar with 1 cup water (so that is one part Apple Cider Vinegar with two parts water). Shake them together. Now add 5-6 drops of essential oil of your choice and mix well. Your refreshing, all-natural facial toner is ready for use!


Note: In case you're using homemade Apple Cider Vinegar in this recipe, refrigerate the mist/toner in-between uses, to increase its shelf-life.
